Behind the Range: Dot & Dash

Updated: Oct 14, 2022

I'm excited to write another one for these posts - it's been a while! I love sharing snippets of what goes on behind the scenes and giving you a bit of insight into my ranges.

Dot & Dash is my brand new collection and seems to be a firm favourite already so I'm happy to share this with you all.

It all starts with Dot...

Happy Birthday Dots!

Introducing Dot • and - Dash! A brand new collection of cards inspired by dots, dashes and stripes. Celebrating birthdays and hobbies, designs are fresh, fun and full of joy!

Celebratory dots / bubbles!

I love how versatile these designs are and how my gift tags go with them too, ensuring that you have gorgeously wrapped gifts for your recipients!

And then there's Dash!

Stripes looking Dash-ing!

Full of colourful and energetic stripes, this birthday card is fresh and fun. Reads HAPPY BIRTHDAY on the front.

Confetti always says party and celebrate!

And everything in between!

The Dot and Dash collection

As you can see, the Dot & Dash range is inspired by graphic design, stripping back detail - and lots of stripes, dashes, and dots! This range is fun, fresh and full of celebration!

I'm really excited about this range. I've enjoyed going back to my graphic design roots with these and creating some bold and fun birthday and hobby themed cards.

A few details...

Happy Birthday Fancy Pants!

The wearer of these gold flecked trousers certainly is fancy! I’ve put it on a card to give to fashion lovers or to people that like fancy things, lots of fun!

Know someone who would love this card?

Can you spot the little one in a million gold fleck?!

One in a Million! Can you spot the one in a million piece of gold confetti among all the other bits?!… This features on the card too ♡ and is perfect for your one in a million person.

I love geometrics!

This one is called Geo Cake and I love it as I love geometric design. I love that the card seems quite simplistic but when you look closer there’s lots more detail - and of course gold foil touches! I think this is one for everyone, a crowd pleaser! Who doesn’t love geometrics?!

How the range was put together...

Creating the Dot & Dash collection in 30 seconds! It obviously takes far longer than this but here’s a roundup for you and a behind the scenes peek at what I get up to.

Swatches, sketches and ideas

Close ups, workings and a look behind the scenes!

Cool, crisp and moody colours make the perfect collection

I loved this swatch set as it was quite a departure from my usual palette - not a blush pink in sight!!

From sketchbook, to designs!

Here’s a look at the sketching stages of putting a range together. So it starts with very rough idea sketches in my sketchbook. With this range I just knew I wanted new male cards in my shop so it was quite vague at first! I then put the solid ideas into 12 boxes (12 makes a good number for a solid range) and then they get drawn up digitally, colour applied and then tweaked before proof stage. Wow, sounds very simple and quick - it’s not that easy - but it is a lot of fun!

The whole collection!

I hope you enjoyed my little round up - if there's anything else you want to know, drop me an email!
