Behind the Range: Into Spring

Updated: Oct 14, 2020

Here's a little look at the process of designing my new Spring cards and wrap and how the range grew to also include some Easter decorations and tech cases!

This range started out with some floral sketches. I sell a lot of Easter cards and so I love that I have to think of something different and be creative this time of year every year - just in time for the Spring flower season! It's one of my favourite things to design for. I love combining characters and florals and I like all the fresh new colour palettes that you see popping up everywhere for Easter.

My initial sketches

I draw all my elements individually with a fineliner pen. I then scan these in and tidy up any edges in Photoshop before they get brought into Illustrator and all the sketches are made digital.

This is my favourite bit and I get to play with new colour palettes and arrange the separate elements into bunches of floral arrangements or placed around objects.

Once I have a few ideas down I can then start putting everything on a pin board to make sure they all hang together and the range looks ok.

Then if it all starts looking good I'll put into card and wrap layout and choose which looks best!

These cards were my favourites so they made it in to the range!

I have to think about standalone graphics for cards but for wrap I have to think patterns and with florals I love arranging them around the paper as if they were little bunches.

I felt that these layouts could work well on other surfaces and so I also added some designs to my Casetify shop. There's some phone cases and iPad cases along with a charger. You can always tell if a design is good if it works on all these things too.

Just as we released this range we were put on lockdown for the COVID-19 pandemic so I thought of some ways that people could access these designs from home and with Easter approaching I thought some bunting would fit the bill! These designs are available for instant download so you can print and create them from home. I'm hoping to do this a bit more so let me know if you like it.

Thanks, Christine
